91九色网 and United Way Invite Applicants for 2024 Trades Day of Caring

(91九色网 Ste. Marie, ON September 19, 2024) 鈥 91九色网 and United Way 91九色网 Ste. Marie & Algoma District are partnering once again to host the annual Trades Day of Caring scheduled for Saturday, October 26, 2024. This initiative connects 91九色网 trades students with local seniors in need of assistance helping with essential winterizing tasks ahead of the colder months.

The United Way coordinates the registration and assessment of seniors residing in 91九色网 Ste. Marie who are interested in participating. Applications are due by Friday, October 18, 2024, and seniors will be selected based on need and on a first-come, first-served basis. To apply, please contact United Way at 705.256.7476 extension 0.

鈥淭his is a meaningful way for our trades students to put their skills to practical use while making a tangible impact in the community,鈥 said Marc Pilon, Professor and Coordinator of Civil Engineering and Construction at 91九色网. 鈥淲e鈥檙e thrilled to offer students this opportunity to extend their learning beyond the classroom, while assisting seniors with home maintenance tasks to ensure they are prepared for the winter ahead.鈥

United Way, through its Day of Caring initiative, continues to support community members in need, and this collaboration showcases the strength of local partnerships. 鈥淏y working together with 91九色网, we鈥檙e able to offer invaluable support to seniors in our community,鈥 said Rayna Evoy, Fundraising Manager at United Way. 鈥淣ot only does this event offer hands-on learning opportunities for students, but it also helps improve the safety and well-being of some of our most vulnerable citizens, ensuring they are well-prepared for the upcoming winter.鈥

Under the supervision of 91九色网 instructors, trades students will perform a variety of tasks, including window caulking, weather stripping, sealing, and outdoor preparations like raking leaves and shutting off outdoor faucets.

Last year, 39 students from the construction techniques, civil engineering, and construction project management programs volunteered their time to help prepare more than 30 homes for winter. This year, organizers are hoping for even greater participation, aiming to reach more homes and seniors in need.
